Silent Prey eBook Cover

The long awaited sequel to Winter Prey is here!  I actually started planning work on this almost 3 years ago. 

I decided very early on that in order for this to come out looking very realistic, I would do physical makeup instead of relying solely on digital stuff.  Over the course of 2 and a half years, I hit up a lot of sfx clearance sales and ended up with a pile of assorted liquid latex, 3D gel, cinema quality fake blood, and more.  I hadn't done sfx makeup in a long time, so I was excited to be able to do some work again. I originally wanted to do a cast of my friends hand and create my own appliance, but due to time constraints and the cost of supplies I ended up going with the F/X Latex Wound by Reel F/X.  Their stuff is always pretty good and this was no exception.  I won't go into detail what I did for the appliance here, but will have more in depth detail on the blog at a later date.

The main hangup I had for this cover was trying to find something else to add into the foreground.  I spent a lot of time looking for the trunk/base of a pine tree, but didn't have much luck.  I would have gone out & taken some photos since there are a lot of pine trees around here, but I don think my neighbors woudl react well to walkout out and seeing me laying at the base of one of their trees.  Eventually, I ran across the rose branch on Dollar Stock Photo and found some inspiration.  Rose bushes are mentioned a few time in the book and are directly tied to the entity/monster, so I went with that.
